***NOTE: Corn values vary depending on delivery location PLEASE call for updates.
Kind of a weird day today. The grains are getting a bit of a ?dead cat? bounce. Wheat futures are up with Chicago leading the way up 10 to 11, KC is up 8 and Mpls is up 9. Corn is sort of trudging along up 1-2. Crude is getting a whippin? today. EIA report said refinery capacity is the lowest it has been since ?97 (excepting when Katrina hit New Orleans). Gas usage is way off?result is crude is down over $4. The DOW is also getting hammered down near 200 points.
Sales reports were rated ?OK?. Corn totaled 36.3 myn bu. If we can get shipments up we still might be able to hit USDA?s 2.05 byn bu. Wheat sales were also ?OK? at 15.7 myn bu. Shipments still look a little light. Weather man sez: Snow/ ice, wind cold (basically it will be winter weather) across most of the US. The eastern seaboard can see up to 15-20? of snow! Southern plains will also get more precip. It is expected to be mostly warm/ dry in SAM (great for crop production, more later), and more rain for southern Africa.
SK booked 2.1 myn bu of ?optional origin? corn for June TOS. These type of sales always cause some concern, especially with good SAM crops, and actual US shipments lagging?this sale could easily end up being lifted from Brazil. Morocco is still tendering for 3.7 myn bu of US wheat, and Japan booked 2.4 myn bu of wheat last night (not all US). Weather has been so good in SAM that Informa has increased their projections for Brazil/ Argie corn and beans, all their estimates are now higher than USDA. They have: 66.5 myn mt for Brazil beans and 54 myn mt for Argie. On corn they are rating Brazil at 53.3 myn mt and Argie at 18.2. Iraq completed their tender booking about 25.7 myn bu of wheat. They got it from; US, Canada, Russia, Aussie, Germany. US portion was 3.6 myn bu sold by ADM. Russia, Aussie and Germany also sold them 3.6 myn bu each. Canada sold 11 myn bu (half from Dreyfuss in Canada, the other half is ?undisclosed?). The US portion went at $225/ ton FOB, and the Russian was sold $267 delivered.
***Didja Know; In the animal kingdom, the ant has proportionally, the largest brain of any animal. They are also able to lift 50x their own weight.
