***NOTE: Corn values vary depending on delivery location PLEASE call for updates.
There is an adage that in the markets that ?Big crops tend to get bigger, and small crops tend to get smaller?. With out an early killing frost, I expect we will see that play out in corn again this year. One thing about this crop is not just the size of the ears, but the total ears / acre. Weather man says MORE ideal weather in the foreseeable future. Wheat continues to struggle. There are some production losses (like in Russia), but for everyone of them, there is an EU where they seem to find a bit bigger crop. At any rate, export sales are slow, but shipments are slower. We are only shipping wheat at 45% of last years pace today. The SRW index is still hanging around -$1.15. The next few weeks will be very interesting. This morning beans are down .72 in the nearby and in the ?30 in the deferreds. Corn is off 3-5 and wheat is actually posting positive numbers.
Monsanto said that the px of corn seed will be going up. ?Smart Stax? corn will be offered for $330/ bag! Equates to about $130/ acre for seed! The options are getting thinner. In a twist of irony, there is no vaccine available for H1N1 (swine flu) for the hog industry. So far there have not been any reported cases of swine with the illness, but they can catch it easily enough from people. Hog producers are having to vaccinate employees to keep them from passing the flu to hogs?
CNGOIC (China National Grains and Oils Info Center) has raised the Chinese production estimates for wheat, corn and rice. Soybean production is unch?d. The Chinese gov?t has also announced that they will offer 500m mt of bean for auction on 8/19. The AWB has lowered their pool return estimates?again. Egypt has ?officially? banned GMO ag products for imports/ exports.
***Didja Know: In the ?olden days? it used to cost more to get your portrait painted, depending on how many limbs the artist had to paint. That is where ?it?ll cost you an arm and a leg? came from.. ?If you enjoy what you do, you will never work another day in your life? Confucious.
HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!!!
